　　澳洲國家圖書館的檔案命名原則是以一個辨識碼（identifier）為基礎並做變化，如此一來一個檔案的不同版本（例如同一個原始資料的不同類型檔案）便可以被輕易辨識，且這些不同版本的檔案都可以維持其獨一性。至於檔案的命名方式，根據使用需求的不同，只要在辨識碼上加上各種特徵以及序號加以變化即可。而辨識碼的命名原則包括以下幾點：

　

1. 獨一性：辨識碼必須是唯一的，不管之後使用在任何方面，或是被其他機構或計畫使用，都將可以輕易辨識出其辨識碼所對照之資料內容。
2. 辨識碼必須能夠和全國性的編碼方式相容。
3. 辨識碼的命名必須標明出其收藏組別，例如地圖、手稿、音樂等等，如此不僅能維持其獨一性，並可便於使用。
4. 在不同系列的收藏中，命名檔案的原則必須相同。例如在不同收藏系列中，做展示用的檔案必須以同樣的原則命名，而網站地圖的檔案命名方式也必須一致。
5. 因原始資料的性質和需求不同，辨識碼的命名原則也會不同。

　

　　辨識碼的命名原則是以nla（即澳洲國家圖書館，National Library of Australia）為開頭，緊接著加上收藏組別之代號。例如nla.pic, nla.ms, nla.map, nla.gen, nla.mus, nla.aus, nla.arc, nla.web等等。

 

　　澳洲國家圖書館的數位化館藏包含了三方面：紙本原始資料的數位檔、原本就以網站方式呈現的數位資料、以及由各方擷取材料而形成的數位典藏資料庫。由於性質上的不同，這三類的數位檔案有不同的命名原則，其中以第一類，也就是將原始資料數位化的這一個類型，其命名方式最為嚴謹而統一。今舉其類型之命名方式為例，說明澳洲國家圖書館的檔案命名原則。

　

　　由紙本所製作的數位檔，其檔名應該要有唯一性，並且以原始資料作為命名基礎，亦要能夠標示出其檔案的用途。如果檔案代表一個系列中的一項，則必須清楚標出整個系列及其在此系列中的地位。今以一錄音檔為例：

　

　　命名方式為：收藏種類之代碼（collection id）-收藏種類之代號（collection no.）-系列之代號（series no.）-錄音帶代號（tape no.）-段落之代碼（fragment identifier）-地位代號（role code）

　

收藏種類之代碼（collection id）: 口述歷史類型的收藏之代碼為nla.oh（Oral History）。

收藏種類之代號（collection no.）: 錄音檔的TRC號碼

系列之代號（series no.）: 四位數字，代表檔案所屬之系列。開頭如不足數則補上0。

錄音帶代號（tape no.）: 四位數字，代表在系列中的錄音帶編號，開頭不足數補0。

段落之代碼（fragment identifier）

地位代號（role code）: 從標準清單（見附錄）中選出可以標示此檔案之地位的代碼。

版本代碼（generation code）: 兩位數字，代表母帶經過處理過後的不同版本。

　

e.g. nla.oh-trc0234-0003-0001-m
M代表了母帶（master recording），因此此檔案為TRC0234的系列三之下的一號錄音帶之母帶

　

附錄1　地位代碼表

 　　這是一個標準化的清單，可以在不同媒體類型的檔案中使用。如有需要可以新增其他的地位代碼。
