Official Documents
This group includes official documents from imperial and modern China, as well as those which reflect the face of Han society in Taiwan. Materials from imperial China include Han wooden slips and the archives of the Grand Secretariat from the Qing imperial palace. The materials concerning modern China include archives stored by the Nationalist Government, the Kuomintang and research institutes in Academia Sinica. Documents pertaining to Han society in Taiwan may be found in National Taiwan University’s Tan-Hsin Archives, a collection of Qing judicial documents from northern Taiwan, and among the various extant administrative and judicial files from the Japanese colonial period.

Ancients Texts, Rubbings
and Social Documents
This group contains rare books from the National Palace Museum, National Central Library, and Fu Ssu-nien Library, as well as the Chinese full-text database established by Academia Sinica, the Council for Cultural Affairs, and the National Museum of Taiwan Literature. The exhibition also showcases Buddhist sutras digitized by the Chinese Buddhist Electronic Text Association (CBETA). Rubbings from northern China and Vietnam are on display. Various other documents shed light on economic, religious and medical life in Taiwan.

Images and Drama
The part of the exhibition contains carved stone reliefs from the Han dynasty, traditional Chinese paintings from the National Palace Museum’s collection, and religious images from Taiwan. The drama-related part of this section include scripts and prints from various genres of music and dramatic forms, such as Zaju, Chuanqi and Kun drama from the Chinese mainland, as well as Beiguan and Taiwanese folk opera in Taiwan.

Material Culture
This group focuses on objects, including artifacts from the fieldwork of archeologists, anthropologists and folklorists, as well as the work of traditional architects. The individual exhibits are organized by theme, and include boxes, bowls, plates and so on. Alongside these artifacts are placed objects of similar kinds from the National Palace Museum, an arrangement which juxtaposes the refined and the commonplace.

Chinese Language and Characters
This group showcases several Chinese digital corpora created by the Institute of Linguistics. Also on display are Chinese characters engraved on oracle bones and bronze vessels, as well as ethnic minority scripts from southwest China. Another part of the exhibit is about the romanization of the Taiwanese language (Southern Min dialect).

Maps and the Geographic Information System (GIS)

This group represents scholars’ efforts of collecting maps and aerial photographs of China and Taiwan. With the aid of geographical techniques and the technology of GIS, a variety of maps have been created that express temporal, spatial and other information in myriad ways useful for researchers.
